George Chelston Springer III is a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays. He was born on September 19, 1989, in New Britain, Connecticut.
From 2014 to 2020, he was a member of the Houston Astros. Springer was drafted by the Astros in the first round of the 2011 MLB draft (11th overall).
For the Astros, he made his major league debut in 2014. For the most part, Springer has played right field, although he has also seen action in centre field.
Springer is of Puerto Rican and Panamanian heritage and a native of New Britain and Connecticut. In the 48th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft, Springer was selected by the Minnesota Twins to join their organization.
He came to the conclusion that he was not prepared to play professional baseball and so did not sign. He was a member of the Connecticut Huskies baseball team during his time as a college student.
Springer was honoured by being selected to the first team of the baseball American Freshman All-America Team in 2009. In 2011, he was honoured with the title of Player of the Year for the Big East.
