The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division.
Murchison formed a triumvirate that would lead the Cowboys’ football operations for the next three decades by hiring CBS Sports executive and former Los Angeles Rams general manager Tex Schramm as team president and general manager, San Francisco 49ers scout Gil Brandt as head of player personnel, and New York Giants defensive coordinator Tom Landry as head coach.

The Cowboys’ early seasons were marked by adversity, much like those of most other expansion clubs. During their debut season, they could not manage to win a single game.
However, Landry gradually elevated the team to a respectable level of play. 1965 was the year in which they achieved the.500 mark. They finally achieved success the following year, when they won back-to-back titles at the Eastern Conference tournament in 1966 and 1967.
