Eugene Melnyk was brought up in Toronto, Ontario, the child of parents who moved to Canada from Ukraine. He was survived by two daughters, Olivia and Anna.

Eugene started his business career in 1982 with Trimel Corp., a clinical distributing organization he changed into the biggest clinical distributing organization in Canada with a stable of 40 distributions.
