On April 21, 2013, the Nationals called up Rendon to replace the injured Ryan Zimmerman, who had been placed on the disabled list, and he made his major league debut.
As the Mets’ sixth batter, he went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts in four at bats.
On June 15th, against the Cleveland Indians, he blasted his first career home run, tying the game at 6-6 with two outs in the 9th inning.
Nick Swisher misread the ball and let it fall down for an error; when given the opportunity to swing at a pitch again, Rendon smashed the next pitch over right field wall to win the game 7-6.
For the season, Rendon hit .265/.329/.396 with seven homers and 35 RBI in 98 games for the Washington Nationals. He started 81 games at second base after his return to health, and he also played four games at shortstop during that time.
Opening Day second baseman Alex Rendon batted 8th for the Nationals against the New York Mets in 2014. With two outs in the 10th inning, he launched a three-run homer against John Lannan to give Washington a 9-7 victory.
That night, he went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBIs in the Astros’ 7-0 win over the Cardinals on April 30th.
How Is Anthony Rendon Doing?
