When the Atlanta Braves drafted Anthony Rendon in the 27th round of the 2008 amateur draft he turned them down in favor of a scholarship to Rice University.
He was voted ABCA Player of the Year in 2010 and was awarded the Dick Howser Trophy for his achievements. In the 2011 amateur draft, the Washington Nationals selected him with the sixth overall choice.
Rendon made his major league debut in 2012, however, he only appeared in 43 games over four levels of the minors.
When he was just two games into the season with Class A Potomac Nationals, he sustained a major ankle sprain and had to miss three months of action.
As of July 19th, he had returned to the field with the GCL Nationals and Auburn Doubledays, both in the New York-Penn League, where he had hit .364 and .259.
For his efforts in Potomac, he was promoted to the minor league Harrisburg Senators, where he concluded the season with 21 games played and a season-long average of .162.
Even in his brief stint in the majors, with 8 doubles, 4 triples, and 6 homers to his name in the course of the season, he slugged a solid .363 OBP and .469 SLG.
Baseball America ranked him as the 30th best prospect in the game for 2013 when compiling its annual top 100 list. He returned to Harrisburg to begin the 2013 season, where he batted.292 with two home runs in seven games.
How Long Is Anthony Rendon Out?
