How Many Years Of Experience Does Darrin Simmons Have In Coaching?

Darrin Simons has over 25 years of experience in his coaching career.

In 1996, Simmons began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Kansas, where he stayed for a single season.

The next year, he was hired as a graduate assistant at the University of Minnesota, where he stayed for one season.

He obtained his first NFL coaching job in 1999 as the Baltimore Ravens’ Assistant Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, a post he maintained for one season.

The Carolina Panthers hired Simmons in 1999. Todd Sauerbrun, the Panthers’ punter, was voted All-Pro in two of the four seasons he coached the team.

In 2003, the Cincinnati Bengals hired Simmons as their special team’s coach.  Bengals kicker Shayne Graham was named All-Pro in 2005.

The Bengals made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years that season, thanks in part to Graham and Simmons’ work with the kicker.

Kevin Huber, a punter with the Bengals, was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014. Huber was the second punter and third special teamer to be selected to the Pro Bowl under Simmons’ tutelage.

In addition to his duties as special teams coordinator, he was elevated to Assistant Head Coach in 2020. With 9 50-yard field goals, Bengals rookie kicker Evan McPherson led the NFL in 2021.
