David Lamont Long Jr. (born October 12, 1996) is an American football linebacker for the National Football League’s Tennessee Titans. He attended West Virginia University and played football there.
Long was seven years old when he was hit by a car driven by someone who was not paying attention while riding on the back of his older brother’s bike. He was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head and arms.
He graduated from Cincinnati’s Winton Woods High School with 283 total tackles, six sacks, and six interceptions. Long was a high school teammate of Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards, who was taken in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers.
Long redshirted in 2015 and made his collegiate debut as a redshirt freshman for the 2016 squad with four tackles as a reserve in the season opener against Missouri on September 3.
Due to a summer knee injury, Long missed the opening month of the season. His best statistics as a redshirt sophomore for the 2017 Mountaineers were an 18-tackle effort against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on October 28 (including a school-record 7 for a loss (meaning the offense lost yardage as a result of his tackle) and a 2.5-quarterback sack performance against the Utah Utes in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on December 26, 2017.
