Kevin William O’Connell is an American football coach who now serves as the offensive coordinator for the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 25, 1985.
O’Connell’s father is a retired FBI agent. O’Connell attended high school at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, Calif., where he grew up. As a member of the La Costa Canyon football and basketball teams, O’Connell earned all-conference honors.
As a junior, he threw for 980 yards and seven touchdowns as a quarterback in American football. Senior year, he was awarded team MVP and selected to the All-League, North County, and San Diego teams.
He also received honorable mentions on all three of these lists as well. It is said that he was an all-conference player for two years and was a teammate of Arizona star Chase Budinger in basketball. In 2003, O’Connell earned his high school diploma from La Costa Canyon.
In December 2007, O’Connell received a political science degree from San Diego State University. For the San Diego State Aztecs, where he played for four years as a team captain and started 21 games, he had the sixth-most career rushing yards and touchdowns among SDSU quarterbacks, and he was the club’s rushing yardage leader in 2007.
He was 10th in yardage, 8th in attempts, and 7th in completions in the NFL in passing.
