Mahamudu Bawumia is a Ghanaian economist and former central banker who serves as the 7th Vice President of Ghana in the 4th Ghanaian Republic. He assumed office on 7 January 2017.
Before being nominated as the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008, Bawumia served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He ran with Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the party’s presidential candidate at the time.
In addition to this, he was the vice-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the elections that took place in 2012, and he served as the lead witness for the petitioners in the Presidential Election Petition that was filed in 2012/2013 and challenged the declaration of John Mahama as the election’s winner.
He is the father of four children with his wife, Samira Ramadan, with whom he shares a marriage.
