Justice Sotomayor, born Sonia Maria Sotomayor is known to be the current associate justice of the Supreme Court of the USA. She was nominated to office by President Barack Obama on May 26, 2009, and she has been in that position to date.
Justice Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1954, in Bronx, New York in the USA to parents Juan Sotomayor and Celina Sotomayor. She attended Princeton University where she graduated in 1976. After she finished Princeton, she enrolled in Yale University where she graduated and earned her Juris Doctor in 1979.
During her time at Yale, she was an editor for the Yale Law Journal. She worked as an assistant district attorney in New York for almost 5 years and was a member of the board of directors for the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund as well as the State of New York Mortgage Agency, and the New York City Campaign Finance Board.
In 1991, she was nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by President George H. W. Bush. In 1997, President Bill Clinton appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She was confirmed for the position in 1998.
