Matt Araiza, who plays as a punter was taken by the Bills with the No. 180 overall pick on Saturday. Araiza, also known as “the Punt God,” excelled as a specialist for San Diego State University and garnered the nickname.
Araiza was born and raised in California, but he couldn’t be more thrilled about moving to Buffalo, where the culture is centered around football.
Araiza punted and kicked while he was in college, and he would absolutely love the opportunity to do both of those things again in the NFL. Even though it was his first season punting full-time in 2021, he still prefers punting the ball. He was awarded the Ray Guy Trophy as the best punter in the country.
Although Araiza is still relatively inexperienced in holding, he has recently been honing his skills alongside Nick Novak and Jake Bailey.
On May 15th, Araiza received her degree from San Diego State University. Although completing his final studies while also going through the pre-draft process has been difficult for him, he believes that this experience has better prepared him for life as a working professional.
Is Matt Araiza left footed?
Matt Araiza is left-footed. However, he is right-handed, which he admits makes him an intriguing combination for punters. Last season, he averaged 51.19 yards per punt, breaking the previous mark of 50 set by Braden Mann of Texas A&M in 2018.
