The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit. The Lions compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) North Division. The team plays its home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit.
A new typeface, logo, and the entire elimination of black from the Lions’ identity were unveiled on February 1, 2017. The old logo was kept, however, the black border was replaced with a silver border.
As a result, the team wore blue leggings for the first time since 1998 on April 13, 2017, as well as a chrome face mask for the first time in nearly 20 years.
A lasting homage to William Clay Ford, the owner of the Lions from 1963 to 2014, was put to the left sleeve of each Lions jersey. When Ford died, a black “WCF” patch was put to the left breast, replacing the original “WCF.”
White pants were worn by the Lions on September 20, 2021, when they faced the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. For the seasons 1948 and 1949, white pants without striping were worn during the “scarlet and black” style.
