This incident in Skelton has been identified as that of Isaac Matthew Crofts, a four-year-old boy.
His family remembers him fondly as a person with a “beautiful grin” who was beloved by those who met him.
Officers were dispatched to Grampian Road in Skelton just after 2pm on Saturday after receiving a complaint of a child who had been struck by a vehicle.
Police in Cleveland issued the following statement: “One of the most cherished members of the Crofts family was Isaac Matthew Crofts.
“Everyone who met him gushed over his charming personality and charming grin.
“In the midst of their grief over the unimaginable loss of a kid, his family has requested for solitude as they begin to process their loss.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the policemen and their families at this difficult time.
“The police would like to express their gratitude to the members of the public who assisted them on the scene once more. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Skelton community following this awful event.”
As of this writing, hundreds of messages of support have been posted on social media, one of which reads: “Thank you for your support.”
“I can’t fathom how difficult this must be for him and his family, bless their tiny hearts. I hope you’re soaring across the skies, little one. All of my best wishes to my loved ones.”
Another person commented, “It’s very heartbreaking, and I’m extending my my condolences to the family at this very terrible time..”
