Jacob William Brendel was born on September 10, 1992, and currently plays for the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers (NFL). He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he played collegiate football. Brendel was a 2016 undrafted free agent signed by the Dallas Cowboys.
Brendel is a native of Plano, Texas, and spent his first two years as a defensive tackle at Plano East Senior High School.
As a junior, he was shifted to the offensive line. He captained the team and was a two-time offensive line first-team All-district selection. Rivals.com ranked him as a three-star recruit and ranked him as the class’s No. 15 center prospect.
After redshirting his first year at UCLA, Brendel established himself as a permanent center following spring practice, starting all 14 games for the Bruins in 2012. The Sporting News, CBSSports.com, and the Football Writers Association of America all named him first-team Freshman All-America, while College Football News named him second-team Freshman All-America.
He was the most seasoned offensive tackle on the squad as a junior in 2014. He returned for the remainder of the season after missing the season opener against Virginia with a knee injury. Brendel earned a spot on the second team of the Pac-12 All-Conference.
