Jalen Hurts’ Parents: Meet Pamela Hurts and Averion Hurts

Born on born August 7, 1998, Jalen Hurts is an American football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL).

He played his first three seasons of college football at Alabama. He was part of the team that won the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship and used his final year of eligibility at Oklahoma.

Selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Hurts replaced Carson Wentz and became their starter near the end of his rookie season.

Hurts competed to start the 2016 season as the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

Hurts replaced Blake Barnett as the starter in the second game against the USC Trojans, becoming the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Alabama in 32 years (Vince Sutton in 1984 was the last).

Under the direction of head coach Nick Saban, Hurts had a historic rookie campaign. With nine interceptions and 2,780 yards of passing, he scored 23 touchdowns.

Hurts was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was promoted to a backup quarterback in Week 2 after being initially listed as Nate Sudfeld’s backup third-string quarterback, primarily so he could be used for quarterback running plays or as a decoy.

When Carson Wentz was benched against the Green Bay Packers on December 6, 2020, Hurts entered the game in his place.

Wentz had been playing poorly. Hurts lost this Week 13 game 30-16 despite throwing his first passing touchdown of his career to Greg Ward. Hurts ended the game with 109 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
