James Caan Parents: Meet Arthur Caan and Sophie Caan

James Caan

The New York City borough of The Bronx is where Caan was born on March 26, 1940, the son of German Jews Sophie (née Falkenstein; 1915–2016)[ Arthur Caan (1909–1986).

A butcher’s son,  his father worked in the food industry. Eighth in a family of nine children, as a child, Caan lived in the Sunnyside neighbourhood of Queens.

He was schooled in New York City before attending Michigan State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. During his two years at Michigan State, he was a member of the fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi.

He tried out for the football team at MSU but was not selected. While attending Hofstra University in Hempstead, he was unable to complete his degree there. Francis Ford Coppola and Lainie Kazan were among his Hofstra classmates.

In 2017, Caan filed for divorce from Linda Stokes alleging irreconcilable differences; the pair had two boys. From September 1990 to March 1994, Caan was married to Ingrid Hajek, with whom he had a son, Alexander James Caan, born in 1991.

Following an accusation from an LA rap artist in 1994, he was detained. The International Karate Association awarded him the title of Soke Dai for his achievements in karate.

James Caan’s parents are Arthur Caan, Sophie Caan. His father was a Jewish meat wholesaler and butcher who immigrated to the United States from Germany. On the other hand, there is far less information available on his parents at this time.
