Jarlin Emmanuel Garcia, also known as the Elephant, is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher who now pitches for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). Garcia joined the Miami Marlins as a free agent in 2010. With the Marlins, he made his MLB debut in 2017.
Garcia signed with the Miami Marlins as a free agent in August 2010, getting a $40,000 signing bonus. He started in Minor League Baseball at the age of 18 in 2011, and in 25 starts with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2014, he went 10-5 with a 4.38 ERA and 111 strikeouts (10th in the South Atlantic League). After the 2014 season, he was exposed in the Rule 5 draft.
The San Francisco Giants claimed Garcia off waivers. He pitched with the Giants in 2020, posting a 0.49 ERA, 19.2 percent strikeout rate, and 0.982 WHIP in 18.1 innings pitched in 19 games.
Garcia went 6-3 with one save and a 2.63 ERA in the regular season of 2021. He pitched 68.2 innings in 58 bullpen appearances, averaging 6.3 hits, 2.4 walks, and 8.9 strikeouts per 9 innings for a 0.961 WHIP.
