A second baseman with the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball named Jasrado Prince Hermis Arrington “Jazz” Chisholm Jr. is of Bahamian descent.
Chisholm’s grandmother, Patricia Coakley, who played shortstop for the Bahamian national softball team, inspired him to play baseball and started coaching him to hit when he was just two years old.
Chisholm arrived in the country at the age of 12 to enroll in Life Prep Academy in Wichita, Kansas, for high school.
At Life Prep, he also participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He went back to the Bahamas after graduating from high school to attend a sports academy.
In July 2015, Chisholm agreed to a $200,000 contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent.
In 62 games, he batted .281 with nine home runs, 37 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and other stats with the Missoula Osprey, where he made his professional debut in 2016.
During the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, Chisholm participated for the Great Britain national team. Chisholm played for the Kane County Cougars in 2017, however his season was cut short by an injury.
He had a .248 average, a home run, and 12 RBIs in 29 games for Kane County. He started the year with Kane County before being transferred to the Visalia Rawhide in July.
He batted .272 with 25 home runs and 70 RBIs in 112 games for both teams. With the Jackson Generals, Chisholm started the new year.
