Meet Renowned boxer Johnny Famechon who is an Australian featherweight boxer who passed away recently. Johnny Famechon is known to be an Australian featherweight boxer who is reportedly known to have passed away today August 4, 2022. According to the reports, he was the 2003 Hall of Fame inductee of the Fame Moderns category as well as the third to be elevated to legend status in the year 2012. Johnny was born on March 28, 1945, in Paris, France. Born in France, he was known to have developed a good spirit for being a potential boxer at the time. He had a promising strength with defense and had a beginning stage career with a career record of 56 wins.

His first significant victory over Les Dunn earned him the titles of Victorian featherweight champion in 1964 and Commonwealth featherweight champion in 1967 after he had beaten the Scot John O’Brian. On January 21, 1969, he defeated Jose Legre of Cuba on points to become the Lineal and WBC featherweight champion of that year.

It will interest you to know that, Famechon was known to be the first Melbourian to become King of Moomba in the year 1970 when he was appointed by the Moomba festival committee during his after life.

The sculpture honors the accomplishments of legendary boxer Johnny Famechon. Sculptor Stephen Glassborow of Sydney created the 2.5-meter-tall sculpture, which was sponsored by Rob McCarthy, the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame, and Frankston City Council.
