British theater and television character actress Josephine Ann Tewson. Her performances in British television comedy were her most well-known ones. She was born on February 26, 1931, to Kate and William Tewson in Hampstead, London, United Kingdom, and she passed away on August 18, 2022.
Her father William was a professional musician who played the double bass in the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and her mother Kate was a nurse and a direct descendant of Haydn Morley, who captained Sheffield Wednesday in the 1890 FA Cup Final. She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and earned a degree there in 1952. She portrayed Elizabeth Warden, Hyacinth Bucket’s reluctant confidante and neighbor, in the television series Keeping Up Appearances.
