Since 2019, Joshua David Hawley has served as the junior United States Senator representing Missouri. He is an American politician, lawyer, and former lecturer. Hawley, a Republican, served as Missouri’s 42nd attorney general from 2017 to 2019, before upsetting two-term incumbent Democratic senator Claire McCaskill in the 2018 election.
Hawley graduated from Stanford University in 2002 and Yale Law School in 2006. He was born in Springdale, Arkansas, to a banker and a teacher. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as a law clerk for Tenth Circuit Judge Michael W. McConnell and Chief Justice John Roberts, and then as a lawyer, first in private practice and subsequently for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.
