John Patrick Sears is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees. Sears made his MLB debut for the Yankees in 2022.
Sears entered The Citadel after graduating from Wilson Hall, a private school in Sumter, South Carolina.
The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 11th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with the Everett AquaSox and the Clinton LumberKings, where he went 1-2 with a 0.65 ERA in 27+23 innings.
In exchange for Nick Rumbelow, Sears and Juan Then were traded to the New York Yankees on November 18, 2017.
Sears e played all of the 2018 season for the Charleston RiverDogs, making ten starts, going 1-5, 2.67 ERA, 54 strikeouts in 54 innings, and starting ten games.
He pitched for the Tampa Tarpons in 2019 and had a 48+2/3 inning record of 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA. Due to the cancellation of the season in 2020, he did not participate in a minor league game.’
Sears split the 2021 season between the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the Somerset Patriots, going 10-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 25 games (18 starts) with 136 strikeouts over 104 innings.
After the 2021 season, the Yankees added Sears to their 40-man roster.
Sears was added to the Yankees Opening Day roster in 2022, and on April 13 he made his Major League Baseball debut.
On April 16, Sears won his first game in a major league, however, following the game, he was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
