Juwan Howard Biography
Juwan Antonio Howard, a former professional basketball player, and current head coach of the Michigan Wolverines men’s team was born on February 7, 1973, in the United States. From 2013 through 2019, he worked as an assistant coach with the NBA’s Miami Heat.
From 1994 to 2013, Howard was a member of the NBA. Howard attended Chicago Vocational Career Academy and was an All-American center. Michigan was able to sign him ahead of schedule despite several multiple bids, and then persuade the rest of his draft class to follow him.
Jannie Mae Howard, Howard’s grandma, was the child of Mississippi sharecroppers. Howard’s mother Helena was one of her four daughters by the time she was 19. When Helena became pregnant with Juwan, she was working as a waitress in a Chicago restaurant.
Leroy Watson, Howard’s father, had returned recently from the army and was working for a phone company in Chicago. When Helena’s pregnancy became known, the two married shortly. Howard’s high school junior mother kept him in a drawer at Jannie Mae’s residence for the first week of his existence.
Helena, who was 17 at the time, didn’t want to be limited or encumbered in parenting her child, so Jannie Mae took him home. Leroy Watson Jr., his birth father, intended to call him Leroy Watson III, but his grandma refused and insisted on Juwan Antonio Howard.
