Kelvin Gutierrez’s career with the Washington Nationals
The Nationals signed Gutiérrez as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2013. To his surprise, the Nationals made him their primary third baseman.
In his first season as a professional, in 2013, he batted .255 in 60 games for the Double-A DSL Nationals.
For the GCL Nationals and Auburn Doubledays in 2014 and 2015, respectively, he slugged .305/.358/.414 in 62 games with one home run and 30 RBIs, respectively, in the minor leagues.
In 96 games with the Hagerstown Suns in 2016, he hit.300/.349/.406 with three home runs, 48 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. While with the Potomac Nationals, he also appeared in ten games.
Baseball America named him as the Nationals’ best infielder in 2017. To begin the 2017 season, he was assigned to the Potomac Nationals.
Gutiérrez jumped from 26th to 12th in the Nationals’ system by the middle of 2017, according to MLB Pipeline.
While he was selected to play in the Carolina League All-Star Game in 2017, his participation was cut short by an injury he suffered while running the bases on June 9th.
Due to injury, he played in just 58 games for Potomac last year, batting.288 with two home runs and 16 RBIs.
During the Arizona Fall League, Gutiérrez led the Mesa Solar Sox with a.350 batting average after the 2017 season finished.
