At the University of Cincinnati, he participated in college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats team. 2013 was his true freshman year, during which he redshirted. As a sophomore in 2015, he started 12 games at left tackle and participated in nine of them, marking his first substantial game action in 2016. He was selected for the Second Team All-American Athletic Conference as a senior.
He played in 33 games while at Cincinnati, starting 24 of them at left tackle. Cunningham was taken in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals with the 254th overall pick.
