Major League Baseball pitcher Kyle Freeland is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of the league.
At Evansville, he was picked eighth in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. Don and Susan Freeland raised their son Freeland in Denver, Colorado, where he was born on May 14, 1993. Colin, his older brother, is a great influence on his life.
When he was younger, Freeland participated in a wide range of activities, but his best sports were golf and baseball. He went to Denver’s Thomas Jefferson High School.
The Philadelphia Phillies selected Freeland in the 35th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball amateur draft, but he declined to sign with the team and instead enrolled at the University of Evansville in Indiana.
Since arriving at Vanderbilt, Freeland has appeared in 14 games, with a 4.55 earned run average (ERA) and striking out 70. While playing for the New York Yankees as a sophomore in 2013, the right-hander appeared in 14 games, finishing 4–8 with a 4.34 ERA and 84.1 K/9 in 93.1 innings of work.
After the season, he pitched in the Cape Cod League for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and was selected as an All-Star after posting a 2.25 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 48 innings.
Over 99+2/3 innings, he was 10–2 with a 1.90 ERA and 128 strikeouts (14 starts). The Rockies selected him in the first round of the draft after his junior year in high school.
