Kyle David Whittingham is a former player and coach in the National Football League. He is the University of Utah’s head football coach. He’s been in this job since 2004.

In addition, he holds the record for most wins at Utah. Whittingham spent ten seasons as the defensive coordinator at Utah before becoming head coach.

Kyle Whittingham is regarded as one of the most powerful men in American athletics. His coaching abilities and reputation have raised the bar in sports.



Whittingham played linebacker for the BYU Cougars from 1978 to 1981. In 1981, he was voted first-team All-WAC and WAC Defensive Player of the Year.

He played linebacker for the USFL’s Denver Gold and New Orleans Breakers, as well as the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, after graduating from BYU in 1981.

He was also a member of the Los Angeles Rams’ substitute squad in 1984. Whittingham worked as a graduate assistant for BYU during the 1985 and 1986 seasons. Whittingham joined the College of Eastern Utah’s defensive staff in 1987.

Kyle Whittingham has won 142 games as the head coach of the University of Utah football team, making him the all-time winningest coach in school history.

Kyle Whittingham passed Ike Armstrong for the most wins in program history with his 38-7 triumph over No. 3 Oregon on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Whittingham is in his 17th season as Utah’s head coach, and in 11 of those seasons, the Utes have won eight games or more.
