Both Hickory High School and South Caldwell High School, where he played football in high school, were attended by him. He participated in the Under Armour All-America Game as a senior in high school and was selected for the first team All-State.
He chose Florida State over offers from other universities even though he was a four-star prospect when he was in college. He participated in Florida’s football program while representing the Florida State Seminoles. Since Jamie Dukes in 1982, he was the first true freshman offensive lineman to start the season opener for the Seminoles after being designated the right guard starter during training camp.
He played for Florida State for three seasons before electing to join Alabama as a graduate transfer for his last two seasons of NCAA eligibility. In his first season, he was selected to start at right guard for the Crimson Tide at Alabama. After four games, he converted to center, and the Southeastern Conference selected him for the second team.
Dickerson was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Eagles in July 2021. He was added to the COVID list in December 2021, then on December 24, 2021, he was taken off of the list.
