Lee Zeldin was raised in Suffolk County, New York, and attended William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach. At the age of 23, Congressman Zeldin graduated from the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY) and then Albany Law School, making him New York’s youngest attorney at the time.
Congressman Zeldin served four years in active duty after completing the Army ROTC program. During that time, he worked as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate, among other things.
In the summer of 2006, Congressman Zeldin was assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Tikrit, Iraq, with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Following his tenure on active duty, Congressman Zeldin transferred to the Army Reserve in 2007, where he currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Congressman Zeldin established a successful law business in Smithtown, New York, in 2008, which he ran full-time until he was elected to the New York State Senate in 2010, representing New York’s 3rd Senate District.
As a State Senator, Congressman Zeldin spearheaded the successful battle to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax, a job-killing tax that harmed New York’s small companies.
