1979 was the California Angels’ 19th season in MLB. The Angels made their first playoff appearance by winning the American League West Division by three games over the Kansas City Royals in manager Jim Fregosi’s debut season. The Angels lost 3-1 to the Baltimore Orioles in the 1979 ALCS. Don Baylor had a great season, playing in all 162 games, scoring 120 runs (tops in the American League), hitting 36 home runs, and driving in 139 runs (also highest in the American League).

The 2004 Anaheim Angels season was the 44th since existence. The Angels finished the regular season 92–70, claiming their fourth American League West division title since 1986. They were swept by the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series.
Following the season, owner Arte Moreno renamed the team to the controversial “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.” It was also the first time an Angels player has won the AL MVP since Don Baylor in 1979.

The 2008 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season was their 48th. The Angels won their eighth American League West division title and established a team record most victories in a season. In the postseason, they were beaten by the Boston Red Sox, who had also defeated them in the 2004 and 2007 ALDS and the 1986 ALCS.
