Lorenzo Carter, an outside linebacker, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Falcons. For the 2022 season, the Falcons pass rush will need significant improvement.

Carter joins the Falcons from the Giants, where he played for the previous four seasons. Carter, who played college football for four years at the University of Georgia, was picked by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

In Week 5 of the 2020 season, he ruptured his Achilles tendon just as he was getting ready to embark on a promising and fruitful third season in the league. He sustained an injury and spent the rest of the season on the Giants’ injured list.
In 2021, after recovering from an injury, Carter recorded five sacks, an interception, and two forced fumbles for the season.
At the end of last season, Carter appeared to be getting back into a groove that would serve him well. In the final four games of the season, Carter recorded six of his eight quarterback hits and five of his six tackles for loss.
