Luis Fernando Uras Figueroa is a Major League Baseball infielder for the Milwaukee Brewers. For the San Diego Padres, he made his MLB debut.
How Old Is Luis Urías?
Luis Urías is 24 years old. He was born on June 3, 1997
Luis Urias was a top prospect coming up through the Padres’ organization during a time when the Padres’ farm system was regarded as one of the best in baseball.
Year after year, the Padres resisted offers to trade Urias for more seasoned players.
Urias was traded to Milwaukee in one of the more intriguing challenging transactions in recent memory, with the Padres sending Urias and southpaw Eric Lauer to the Brewers in exchange for outfielder Trent Grisham and righty Zach Davies.
Grisham was at a low moment in late November of 2019, having just ended the Brewers season with an unlucky bounce on a Juan Soto single that took Milwaukee out of the wild card game.
Grisham had performed excellently during a 51-game tenure in which he largely filled in for the injured Christian Yelich, which was no easy feat given his legendary status at the moment.
However, the way the season concluded gave a negative view of Grisham’s future.
Of course, the following season, Grisham would earn a Gold Glove Award as a centerfielder, demonstrating that a single moment in time does not define a player’s career.
The first few seasons of Urias’ career may have taught him something similar. His first season with the Brewers resembled his first few years in San Diego in many ways.
Urias’ career triple-slash line was punchless after the 2020 season. 226/.315/.320, a 24 percent below-average performance.
Power was never his calling card, so the lack of pop wasn’t surprising. While in the lower levels, his offensive promise was founded on a strong eye at the plate and bat-to-ball abilities that frequently produced hitting averages of .290+.
