Madeleine’s parents are both practicing Roman Catholics and doctors.
Meet Gerry McCann
Gerald Patrick McCann was born in Glasgow in 1968 and graduated from Holyrood R.C. Secondary School in 1989 with a BSc in physiology/sports science from the University of Glasgow.
He graduated from Glasgow University with a medical degree in 1992 and an MD in 2002. He has worked at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital as a consultant cardiologist since 2005.
The McCanns got married in 1998 after meeting in Glasgow in 1993. Madeleine and her twins, a boy, and a girl, were born in 2003 and 2005, respectively.
Gerry McCann is now a professor of cardiology who claims to have “developed a national and developing international reputation as an expert in Cardiac MRI (magnetic reasoning imaging).”
Meet Kate McCann
Kate Marie McCann was born in Huyton, near Liverpool, in 1968.
She went to All Saints School in Anfield, then Notre Dame High School in Everton Valley, and graduated from the University of Dundee with a degree in medicine in 1992.
She worked in obstetrics and gynecology for a short time, then anesthesia, and eventually general practice.
While the McCanns never divorced, Kate has spoken about how close their marriage came to falling apart.
Kate discusses how, following Madeleine’s disappearance, she withdrew inside herself, stopping to read, play music, or even have sex with her husband Gerry, in her book Madeleine.
Kate left her career as a GP to work for children’s organizations after Madeleine vanished.
