Martin Leyland Roberts is a television presenter, property expert, investor, entrepreneur, and author from the United Kingdom.
He co-hosts the BBC One property auction program Homes Under the Hammer alongside Martel Maxwell and Dion Dublin, though Lucy Alexander was his co-host for many years.
Roberts was born in Warrington, Cheshire, and raised in Stockton Heath, a Warrington suburb. Roberts began his career at BBC Radio Manchester in the late 1980s. Roberts’ granddad played the organ in a number of Warrington chapels.
He went to Appleton Hall Grammar School and subsequently to the University of Bradford, where he studied Electronic Engineering and worked as a DJ on Ramair, the university’s radio station, from 1983 to 1986.
Since the early 1990s, Roberts has worked as a property developer and has contributed to a number of publications, both on the subject of property development and travel.
Robert has hosted a number of other shows for the BBC, including Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and How to Survive the Property Crisis, as well as the ITV travel show, Wish You Were Here…?
Roberts is best known for being the BBC’s the UK and Overseas Property Expert, authoring and hosting Homes Under the Hammer since 2003 and appearing on BBC Breakfast, BBC News 24, and The One Show on a regular basis.
Roberts has also been on Ready Steady Cook alongside Lucy Alexander, the co-host of Homes Under the Hammer. He has appeared on the BBC’s Hole in the Wall and Pointless as a celebrity contestant, raising money for charity.
