Punter Matt Araiza, also known as Matthew Ryan Araiza, plays for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. He is 1.85 meters tall and weighs 91 kg. He was born on May 16, 2000, in San Diego, California, in the US. He played football in high school at Rancho Bernardo. He was twice named to the All-America team and had a success rate of 37 field goals when kicking from the spot.
After graduating from high school, he declined football scholarships from Montana and the University of Massachusetts in favor of joining the San Diego State Aztecs at San Diego State University. He spent the 2018–2021 period working in San Diego. He redshirted his actual rookie season. He assumed the position of team placekicker as a redshirt freshman. He established a school record by making 22 of his 26 field goals, which earned him honorable mention All-Mountain West.
In addition to kicking off for the Aztecs, he started the redshirt junior season as their punter. ESPN recognized him as an All-American in the middle of the campaign. The Ray Guy Award was given to him for becoming the finest punter in the nation. Araiza said he would enter the NFL Draft in 2022 rather than play in his last season of eligibility following the 2021 season. In the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected him.
