Who Is Matt Ryan?
Matthew Thomas Ryan was born in Exton, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1985. He was reared in a Roman Catholic family with three siblings.
His uncle played football at Boston College, while his cousin played at Notre Dame before being picked by the San Francisco 49ers.
He went to high school in Philadelphia, where he swiftly rose to prominence on his school’s football squad. He tossed for over 2,000 yards and scored 19 touchdowns his senior year.
During high school, he also played basketball and baseball, and he led all three teams. Ryan had only minimal interest from institutions after graduating, despite being given scholarships from Purdue, Georgia Tech, Temple, and Connecticut.
Ryan finally decided to attend Boston College since it was near to his family and had a great football team while still prioritizing academics. Matt was redshirted his first year, as is customary for young quarterbacks, but made the fourth team by 2004.
During this time, he was particularly dedicated to his academic pursuits, which earned him the Freshman Male Scholar-Athlete honor.
In 2005, he was named the team’s backup quarterback. Ryan took over as a starter midway through the season and threw for 1,514 yards in his next ten games.
He led the league the next season with 2,942 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Matt began preparing for the draft in 2007 by developing a website that included his statistics, personal information, and highlights.
He had 4,507 yards throwing, 31 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions during the season. Among his numerous awards were the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Manning Award, and Eagle of the Year. He was also selected to the 2008 Senior Bowl and the All-ACC team.
Matt Ryan Salary
After being picked, he signed a six-year, $72-million contract with the Falcons in 2008. Guaranteed funds were $34.75 million under this deal.
Despite the fact that he had yet to play a game, he was instantly named the NFL’s fourth-highest-paid quarterback.
This deal was so large that it provoked extensive controversy about whether rookie contracts in the NFL were getting far too costly. Ryan’s career also began with endorsement partnerships with companies such as Nike and AirTran.
He signed a contract deal for well over $100 million in 2015. Matt Ryan became the first NFL quarterback to earn $30 million per year in 2018, making him the highest-paid athlete in NFL history until Aaron Rodgers signed a more costly contract a few months later.
This came after signing a five-year, $150 million contract deal with Atlanta. Matt Ryan made $67 million in salary and sponsorships between June 2017 and June 2018.
