Who Is Matt Ryan?
Matthew Thomas Ryan was born in Exton, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1985. He is the third of four children.
Ryan attended Philadelphia’s William Penn Charter School. He was a football player from a young age and achieved distinctions such as ‘All-City First Team’ and ‘Second Team’ recognition.
From 2005 through 2007, Ryan was Boston College’s starting quarterback, guiding the team to three bowl victories and a 25–7 record in 32 starts.
He passed for 200 yards or more 15 times and is third all-time in passing yards and pass completions at his alma mater. At the 2005 MPC Computers Bowl, he was named game MVP.
Ryan was awarded ACC Player of the Year in 2007 after leading his team to an ACC Atlantic Division title. Ryan started all 16 games for the Falcons in his debut season, leading them to the playoffs with an 11–5 record.

Ryan became the first $30 million per year quarterback and the highest-paid athlete in NFL history after signing a $150 million five-year agreement with the Falcons in 2018. He was eclipsed months later by Aaron Rodgers.

Ryan was selected third overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft. He agreed to a six-year, $72 million contract. This earned him the NFL’s fourth highest-paid quarterback.
The next year, he was named the starting quarterback for the season opener against the Detroit Lions. He became the Falcons’ first rookie quarterback to start a season since 2001.
As his career proceeded, he established himself as one of the NFL’s top players. In the 2012 season, he was named to the Pro Bowl once more. He was also included in the ‘NFL Top 100 Players of 2013’ list.
