Maury Wills

Maury Wills gained notoriety for his accomplishments in the baseball world. He was a Major League Baseball player from 1959 to 1966, primarily with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was conceived on October 2, 1932 in Washington, D.C., in the United States of America. He died on September 19, 2022. Prior to his passing, he took part in five All-Star seasons and seven All-Star games.

He was named Most Valuable Player in the inaugural MLB All-Star Game in 1962. He also won Gold Gloves in the years 1961 and 1962. During the course of a fourteen-year career that included 1,942 games, Wills hit.281 with 20 home runs, 458 RBI, 2,134 hits, 1,067 runs, 177 doubles, 71 triples, 586 stolen bases, and 552 bases on balls. He also had 586 runs scored against him.

From 2009 until his death in 2022, he served the Los Angeles Dodgers as a member of the Dodgers Legend Bureau. In order for the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Golden Era Committee to consider him for induction into the Hall of Fame in 2015, he first ran as a candidate in its election in 2014.

The committee needs twelve votes to do so. Wills lost the race by a narrow margin of three votes. Each and every other candidate on the ballot also came in last. He re-appeared on the Golden Days Era ballot in 2022, but he failed to garner enough support to be admitted.
