Marie Magdalena Frantiska Sokolova who was popularly known as Meda Mladkova was a Czechoslovak art collector born on September 8, 1919, at the Zakupy castle where her father was working. She spent more than half of her life living in exile in the United States.
She was initially trained to be a dancer but after the second world war, Meda moved to Geneva where she studied economy after which she was exiled again to Paris where she studied the history of art at the Sorbonne and L’ecole Du Louvre.
It was in Paris where she met her husband Mladek and the famous Czech painter Frantisek Kupka whose work caught her attention. Since then her interest in arts especially those of Czech background was her fascination and she began to collect many art pieces.
In 1999, Meda formed a foundation where the Sovovy Mlyny which was an ancient building was transformed into an art museum which was later called the museum Kampa.
