Brett Kavanaugh is an American lawyer and jurist serving as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and grew up there. Prior to clerking for the Supreme Court and eventually serving as a justice, he attended Georgetown Preparatory School for Jesuit Boys, where he was two years older than Neil Gorsuch.
He was the basketball team’s captain and also played football as a wide receiver and cornerback. In addition to Mark Judge, Kavanaugh was also pals with Maryland state senator Richard Madaleno’s classmate.
He referred to himself as a Renate Alumnius in his yearbook, a reference to a female Catholic school student in the area. Kavanaugh followed in the footsteps of his paternal grandfather and attended Yale University after graduating from Georgetown Prep in 1983.
He was recalled by several former Yale classmates for his love of athletics, particularly basketball, and for being serious but not ostentatious. The Yale Bulldogs men’s basketball team turned him down, so he went on to play two years of junior varsity basketball instead.
