After two decades of NFL experience, he became the head coach for Minnesota Vikings. His NFL coaching tenure began in 1994 as the defensive backs coach for Dallas Cowboys.
He was elevated to defensive coordinator in 2000. Later, in 2007, he became the defensive coordinator for Atlanta Falcons.
After a year, he joined Cincinnati Bengals and retained the defensive coordinator role through 2013. He became the head coach for Minnesota Vikings in 2014.
