Naoya Inoue is a Japanese professional boxer. He is a three-division world champion and currently a unified bantamweight world champion, having held the WBA (Super), IBF, Ring magazine titles since 2019, and the WBC title since June 2022.
On April 6, 2014, in his sixth professional fight at Ota-City General Gymnasium, Inoue stopped Adrián Hernández (29-2-1, 18 KOs) to become the WBC light flyweight champion.
To his credit, Hernández had previously won eight of nine world title fights, but Inoue controlled the contest from start to finish.
As of September 2014, Inoue’s last defense of his light flyweight title came against Samartlek Kokietgym (17–5, 5 KOs).
Despite being down twice in the fight, Inoue was able to finish Kokietgym in the 11th round to complete the route.
After winning the IBF and WBA light flyweight titles in November of 2014, he relinquished them in order to battle WBO junior bantamweight champion Omar Andrés Narváez (43–2–2, 23 KOs). Before the fight, Narváez had a record of 43-1-2.
In 2011, he was defeated by Nonito Donaire in a decision. It was Narváez’s first world championship win in 2002, and since then, he has defended his belts twenty-seven times. When Inoue stepped into the ring, he had a perfect 7-0 record.
