Brewers scout Larry Pardo signed Brantley as a seventh-round choice in the amateur draft in 2005.

He made his major league debut with the Indians in 2009, and he got out to a fast start, collecting seven hits in his first 19 at-bats for a .368 average after five games.

He finished September with a .313/.358/.348 line. For the Indians in 2012, Brantley had a 22-game hitting streak. In 2014, he hit .327 with 45 doubles and 20 home runs in 156 games, driving in 97 runs and scoring 94 runs.

He became an All-Star for the first time that season, and he also won the Silver Slugger Award.

Brantley was sidelined for most of the 2016 season due to injury, appearing in only 11 games and missing the Indians’ journey to the World Series.

In 2017, he made a stunning recovery, being nominated to the All-Star team for the second time and leading the Indians’ offense as they won the AL Central.
