Miguel Antonio Amaya, a Panamanian professional baseball catcher with the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball, was born on March 9, 1999. (MLB).
In July 2015, Amaya signed as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs. He debuted professionally in 2016, hitting.245 with one home run and 22 RBIs in 58 games with the Dominican Summer League Cubs.
Amaya spent 2017 with the Eugene Emeralds, slashing.228/.266/.338 in 58 games with three home runs and 26 RBIs, and 2018 with the South Bend Cubs, earning Midwest League All-Star honors and slashing.256/.349/.403 in 116 games with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs.
He was chosen to play in the All-Star Futures Game that year. Amaya batted seventh for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2019. Over 99 games, he hit.235/.351/.402 with 11 home runs and 57 RBIs.
For the second year in a row, he was named to the All-Star Futures Game. After the season, he was picked to play for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League.
Following the 2019 season, Amaya was added to Chicago’s 40–man roster. He did not play a minor league game in 2020 because to the COVID-19 epidemic, which forced the cancellation of the minor league season. In the offseason of 2021-22, he will have Tommy John surgery.
