Emilio Mwai Kibaki otherwise called by many as Mwai Kibaki was Kenyan third President. His rule lasted from December 2002 until April 2013. He also served as Vice-President of Kenya for ten years. He was born November 15, 1931, in Kenya and passed in April 2022.
Mwai Kibaki was born to Kibaki Gĩthĩnji and Teresia Wanjikũ. He was the youngest child out of six siblings. He had his formal education schooling at a village school in Gatuyaini where he was born. He then attended Mathari School in 1944 and completed it in 1946 after which he enrolled at Mang’u High School where he studied between 1947 and 1950.
During his O Level exams, he gained the highest grade and easily gained admission into the University. Although he had wanted to join the army instead of going to the University, the Kenyan Chief colonial secretary then, Walter Coutts, prohibited members of Kikuyu, Embu and Meru communities from joining the military.
Mwai Kibaki studied economics, history and political science at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in economics. He stayed in Uganda after he graduated and got employed at Shell Company of East Africa.
He later applied for a postgraduate scholarship where he earned a scholarship entitling him to postgraduate studies at any British University of his choice. Mwai Kibaki choose the London School of Economics where he studied BSc in public finance.
