Nathan Gerry was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent most of his NFL career with the Eagles, where he played for four seasons. Gerry also played one season with the San Francisco 49ers before eventually moving to the Commanders.
Gerry’s football career started in his native hometown of Sioux Falls. He attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As a student-athlete, he was active in more than one sport. He was on the school football team and ran track as well.
During his junior and senior years of high school in South Dakota, Gerry won the 200-meter high school championship both years and set a state record with a time of 21.52 seconds.
Gerry also triumphed in the 100-meter contest as a senior. Gerry finished his senior year of football with 64 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, five interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
After a successful high school career, Gerry attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and played four seasons of college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
During his freshman season, Gerry recorded a total of 32 tackles, including 18 stops. Gerry made the transition from linebacker to safety during his sophomore year of college.
Gerry played in every game for the Huskers and started all of them. He led the team with five interceptions and was second on the team with 88 tackles.
