Nicholas Mackie Hoerner, professionally called Nico Hoerner is an American baseball player who plays the position of a shortstop for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Nico played baseball as a high school student for the Head-Royce High School baseball team.
When he completed high school, he continued his college education at Stanford University where he played college baseball for the Stanford Cardinals baseball team. He was named to the All-Pac-12 team in 2018.
After University, the Chicago Cubs drafted him in the 2018 MLB draft. He signed with the Cubs after which he received a signing bonus of $2.72 million. The Cubs assigned him to play with the Arizona League Cubs of the minor league baseball to begin his professional career.
He was later reassigned to the Eugene Emeralds in June and was promoted to the South Bend Cubs in mid-July all within the same season. The Chicago Cubs him to the major leagues on September 9, 2019, and he made his MLB debut that day when the Cubs played against the San Diego Padres.
