Patrick Leahy is an American politician and attorney who is the senior United States senator from Vermont and serves as the president pro tempore of the United States Senate.
Alba (née Zambon) and Howard Francis Leahy had a son named Leahy, who was born in Montpelier, Vermont.
Since birth, he has been legally blind in the left eye. Some of Leahy’s relatives migrated to Vermont in the 19th century to work in the granite quarries and industrial enterprises in Barre Town and Barre City. His maternal grandparents were Italian, while his father was of Irish descent.
