The professional golfer Philip Alfred Mickelson, also known by his stage name Phil Mickelson and his nickname Lefty, was born in San Diego, California, in the United States of America. He competes for LIV Golf and has 45 PGA Tour victories, including six major titles.
In addition to becoming the representative of amateur golf in the USA, he played golf while attending Arizona State University in Tempe on a golf scholarship. He and Ben Crenshaw hold the record for the most NCAA titles won by a person, each having three.
He is one of just 17 golfers in the sport’s history to have captured three or more of the four majors. With the exception of the U.S. Open, where he has a record-tying six runner-up finishes, he has won every major tournament. Mickelson left his 30-year PGA Tour membership in 2022 to join the Saudi-sponsored LIV Golf tour, becoming him the only golfer with victories in all four majors.
Phil has been ranked in the top 50 golfers in the world for more than 25 years running. His career high world ranking of No. 2 was attained several times, and he has spent more than 700 weeks among the top 10. He is a life member of the PGA Tour. He received a World Inductee title in 2012.
The PGA Tour suspended Phil and 16 other current and former tour members on June 9, 2022, the opening day of the LIV Golf Invitational London, for competing in a conflicting event without authorization from the tour.
