Phil Petty played quarterback for Lou Holtz for three years, starting every game. He placed sixth all-time in throwing yards for South Carolina with 5,656 career attempts. He guided his squad to back-to-back incredible Outback Bowl triumphs over Ohio State in 2001 and 2002.

He was also a candidate for the prized Johnny Unitas award, which is given to the nation’s top quarterback. Boiling Springs High School is where Phil Petty received his high school diploma. From 1998 through 2001, the dedicated football player played for South Carolina.

Petty completed 306 of 547 passes for 4,079 yards and 17 touchdowns in his final two seasons with the Gamecocks, including his tenure as team captain in 2001. Over two years, the squad had a 17-7 record.
